You've been assigned to the Soviet weather station "Polynya," a remote outpost on the edge of the taiga, by a frozen lake. It's polar night season - don't expect to see the sun.

Your duties include collecting and processing meteorological data, and monitoring three trail-camera towers in the forest. You must submit a report every day, don't worry, all the necessary equipment is provided.

At your disposal is a cabin with its own computer, radio station, and technical equipment. Firewood, fuel, and provisions are on-site, but you'll need to manage consumption yourself.

Visitors from the nearby village may drop by from time to time. They know this land better than you do, and are sometimes a little too eager to share local stories.

The previous keeper left the post in order, though some of his records could not be found. That's not relevant here. You may also have questions about the old totem and its charms, but I trust you'll figure it out. Good luck with your shift, comrade. (Dec. 13, 1998)
